Curriculum

The curriculum at The Cornerstone School can best be described as Progressive, challenging, focused on the “whole child” and developmentally appropriate.

In our classrooms you will find:

An emphasis on learning by doing – hands-on projects, experiential learning

Opportunities where curriculum is integrated and presented as thematic units

A strong emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking

Opportunities for group work and the development of social skills

Understanding and action using the goals of learning as opposed to rote memorization

Collaborative and cooperative learning projects

Education for social responsibility and democracy

Integration of community service and service learning projects into the daily curriculum .

A selection  of subject content by looking forward to ask what skills will be needed in future society

Varied learning resources used in addition to textbooks

An emphasis on life-long learning and social skills

Assessment by varied means, including an evaluation of child’s projects and productions

Curriculum based the standards set  by the various National Subject associations. 

A learning  environment  designed with the intention for each student to develop into an independent self directed learner and critical thinker who can problem solve confidently, assertively, collaboratively and respectfully.
