Elementary School
The Elementary Program at The Cornerstone School is an academic environment, where the learning process becomes a personal experience for each and every student. The student progresses at his own pace, knowing that the end result will be an outcome that affords opportunity to move onto greater challenges with self-confidence and self-reliance. The developmental needs and individual learning style of each student are considered through a variety of assessment and evaluation tools. In this way, each student’s strength and abilities are identified and used to assist the student in reaching their educational potential.
Although the educational process is a very personal one for each student, every child still needs to participate in cooperative and collaborative learning experiences. In fact, our curriculum lends itself well to the development of interpersonal skills, and the communication process, as a whole.
Approaches to curriculum focus on using a life-problem oriented approach to acquiring and practicing new skills. In this way, the student uses his transfer and application skills throughout the day. Interdisciplinary explorations reinforce the idea that skills learned are relevant beyond the classroom situation and provide each student with the opportunity to explore a subject using higher order thinking skills.
Our curriculum provides the student with the opportunity to gain skills and concepts in a meaningful and relevant way. Here students have the opportunity to act on their own personal strengths by tapping into their individual learning style. The students participate in an education that utilizes their own unique talents, so that success through self-direction becomes the ultimate outcome.
