Community Service

 2009 - 2010

For the 2009 - 2010 school year the students involved in National Junior Honor Society, as well as other middle school students, have been involved in many community service projects. Our students volunteered at the Shrine Rodeo, raising over $700.

Another service that NJHS has provided for our community was by making holiday cards for the soldiers fighting in Iraq. They also made cards for Veterans Day and sent them to a Veteran's home in Fort McCoy.

For the third quarter, our Middle School students have been making arrangements to volunteer for the Day of Caring, and Kidfetti, among other efforts. On February 27, the NJHS, along with other volunteers, washed vans for the ARC. As for Kidfetti, there is no information as of yet, but the NJHS is working on receiving information to deliver to the rest of the Middle School students.

On St. Patrick's Day, themed signs and pictures were posted on the lockers and in the breezeway by NJHS, along with students who volunteered to assist them. For spring, the students in NJHS filled eggs with an inspirational quote and a piece of candy to take to the Ocala Health and Rehab Center

2008 - 2009

Students at The Cornerstone School have been very busy with community service projects this semester.  We started the year with many students volunteering at the annual Shrine Club Rodeo. Current Cornerstone students and families worked along with alumni and their families to make the 2008 Marion County Chili Cookoff the best ever!

We have also been supporting our community by collecting donations for several area organizations.  During Soles for Souls Cornerstone families donated shoes which were then distributed through Shoe Carnival to families in need.  NJHS members joined with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant two trees sponsored by Cornerstone in the Ocala National Forest.

When Interfaith encountered a critical shortage in their pantry,  Cornerstone families responded very quickly.  In addition, NJHS purchased additional food for donation from funds they raised this year.  Students and families also participated in Operation Shoebox, a world wide effort to support American Soldiers.  Twenty packages were filled and shipped to soldiers in Iraq.

Warm Hands Warm Hearts kicked off the beginning of December.  We will be collecting gently used blankets, coats, and other winter wear; as well as non-perishable food items, to help those in need this holiday season.  We will collect items until Winter Sing on December 19th.

Veterans Day Cards were created by Seventh grade.  One hundred cards were delivered to veterans in our area to thank them for their service.

NJHS operates a recycling center on campus.  Aluminum cans are recycled and redeemed for money.  These funds are used to purchase dog and cat food for the Marion County Humane Society.  We have donated over 200lbs of food to pets waiting for adoption.

Thanks to all of you who spend your time in service of others.
