If you want your child to spend time outdoors and be enriched with STEM based activities then our camp program is perfect for your family. Our camp focuses on nurturing new and seasoned friendships and experiencing the natural environment with a STEM based feel.
Our camp serves Elementary age children through Middle School. Our youngest campers must be entering Kindergarten in August, and our oldest campers are entering 8th grade. There will be times where groups are all together, and other times where campers will be split based upon age and ability.
Our day camp is located at The Cornerstone School, 2313 SE Lake Weir Avenue in Ocala, FL near Brick City Park.
LUNCH & SNACKS
Campers bring their lunch and snacks and enjoy eating on tables either indoors or outdoors depending on the day.
Our campers spend much of the day outside in the Florida warmth, in the natural environment. Activities include archery, arts and crafts, large group games, Water Day Wednesdays, STEM activities and a closing family cookout. Most activities will be theme based. Weekly Themes are listed below.
WEEKLY THEMES - 2018
Week 1: We Got Chemistry (June 4-8)
Goggles…check. Lab coat…check
Put on your lab coat and get ready for some chemistry… dry ice experiments and exploring density are some of the activities you will be involved in this week! The week will cap off with a homemade fireworks trail that you won’t want to miss.
Week 2: Construction and Destruction (June 11-15)
It's time to build! What are we building? Forts, Spaghetti Towers, Cardboard Boat, PVC Kayaks and Marshmallow shooters are some of the items we will be constructing this week. Make sure you have on your hard hats, because what goes up must come down!
Week 3: Food Science (June 18-22)
Let's use science to create some funky food! Which chemical ingredients are involved in baking? What can we substitute to make new creations? What strange concoctions can we use to make homemade popsicles out of? Learn a thing or two about gardening, as we will be harvesting our vegetables from our planted garden this week. Bring your chef's hat and apron as we explore the world of FOOD!
Week 4: Under The Microscope (June 25-29)
Observe the microbial world around us by using our new high powered microscope to explore everything from insects, to plants, to live bacteria. A mixture of science and art, this week will be full of new discoveries and creations.
Off Week: NO CAMP THE WEEK OF JULY 4th (July 2-6)
Week 5: The Amazing Human Body (July 9-13)
Learn the science of exercise (heart rate, blood pressure, and muscles), dental care, physical care, first aid and more. We will be working with papier-mâché bones and even have a visit with a real doctor!
Week 6: Robots and Rockets (July 16-20)
Welcome, new recruits, to our Robots and Rockets Academy! We will be exploring different types of rockets such as water rockets, air rockets, solid rockets, WeDo kits, EV3 robots and more! The week will culminate in a 1,000 foot rocket launch extravaganza.
Staff & Supervision
Our day camp staff spends a week together in training (May 30th -June 2nd) prior to the start of camp. The staff are trained as Level 1 Archery Instructors and gain certification in CPR/First Aid/AED. On swim days a lifeguard will be on premise at all times. During our day camp we will incorporate our Tribes Program. There will be days where groups are split based upon age and ability. Each group will be supervised by a staff member and counselor. We have small groups, of a maximum of 15 campers per one counselor and one staff member, on purpose because we want to have quality time in our camp activities. Our total camp capacity each session is 60 campers. We look for counselors who enjoy working with children, serve as positive role models, and enjoy playing with campers in all kinds of weather. The counselor application is now available. Be sure to ask your references to complete the counselor reference form in a timely manner to be considered for a position. Counselor positions are open for high school students only.
